| Need | Correct starting point | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| EA, scripts or custom indicators | MT4 or MT5 desktop matching the account | MQL4 and MQL5 code are not interchangeable |
| No-install manual trading | Exness Terminal or MetaTrader WebTerminal in browser | No EA hosting; web features differ from desktop |
| Manage many MT4 accounts | MultiTerminal for Windows | MT4 only and accounts must be on the same trading server |
| Exness-platform account | Exness Terminal/web workflow | Cannot log that account into MT4/MT5 |
| MT4 or MT5 account | Matching desktop or web terminal | The platform selected at account creation cannot later be changed |
Current desktop support baseline
Since 1 July 2025, Exness lists MT4 Build 1440 and MT5 Build 4755 as minimum supported desktop versions. Open Help → About in MetaTrader to check the build. An older installer or unsupported build should be replaced through an official download route.
Safe installation sequence
- Open the Exness Personal Area or official platform help page.
- Confirm whether the trading account is MT4, MT5 or Exness platform.
- Download the matching installer; reject mirrors and unsolicited “modified” packages.
- Verify the publisher shown by Windows before installation.
- Launch the terminal and check its build number.
- Select the exact trading server and enter the trading-account login—not the Personal Area email.
- Open a demo chart and place, modify and close the smallest suitable practice order.
