Risk comes first

CFDs use leverage and can cause substantial losses. Margin is collateral, not the maximum amount that can be lost.

EXNESS / PRODUCT GUIDE

Is MetaTrader Halal for Pakistani Traders

MetaTrader is order-entry and charting software, so it is neither halal nor haram by itself. The ruling concerns the actual contract executed through it. A swap-free label removes one possible overnight charge but does not resolve ownership, possession, leverage, gharar or the permissibility of a CFD.

Transaction-level test

Course context: This lesson belongs to a practical beginner curriculum for Pakistan.

QuestionEvidence to obtainWhy it matters
What is bought or sold?Instrument specification and legal agreementA currency/metal purchase differs from a price-difference CFD
Does the client own the asset?Title, allocation or enforceable delivery rightEconomic exposure alone may not establish ownership
When is possession obtained?Settlement and constructive-possession termsCurrency and gold standards address prompt qabd
Is financing or interest involved?Margin, swap and fee scheduleRemoving swap does not answer every financing issue
How is profit/loss settled?Cash-settlement clauseA CFD normally settles the price difference
Is there a Shariah certification?Named board, scope, date and standardA marketing word is not an independent ruling

MT4/MT5 versus the broker contract

The same MetaTrader terminal can connect to different brokers and product structures. Platform features—charts, EAs, order tickets—do not change the legal nature of the instrument. At Exness, forex, metals, crypto and other products are offered as CFDs; the client receives price exposure rather than delivery of the underlying asset.

Swap-free boundary

Exness applies swap-free status at the Personal Area level where eligible; it is not a separate sixth account type. Status and instrument coverage can change under program rules. Even when no overnight swap is charged, a scholar may still examine CFD ownership, constructive possession, leverage, speculation and contractual uncertainty.

Gold and currency reference points

AAOIFI lists separate standards for trading in currencies (SS 1), possession (SS 18) and gold (SS 57). For a gold trade, ask whether the structure provides immediate physical or constructive possession and identifiable ownership—not merely whether XAUUSD is described as “spot.” For currency trades, obtain the execution and settlement terms.

Practical review path

  1. Download the client agreement and exact symbol specification.
  2. Identify the legal entity serving the account.
  3. Write down ownership, delivery, settlement, leverage, swap and every fee.
  4. Do not treat “Islamic” or “swap-free” as a conclusion.
  5. Give the documents to a qualified scholar familiar with modern derivatives.
  6. Follow that personal ruling; use demo only for platform learning, not to settle the religious question.

Questions from a first-time learner

Is MT5 halal if I use no leverage?

The software is neutral; the underlying contract, ownership, settlement and fees still require review.

Does swap-free make a trade halal?

Not automatically. It addresses an overnight-charge feature, not every Shariah issue.

Is an XAUUSD CFD physical gold?

No. It is price exposure settled as a CFD, without bullion delivery or allocated ownership.

Who can give a personal ruling?

A qualified Shariah scholar who can examine the exact current contract and your circumstances.
